A hookah regulator call narghilé in french is generally used in professional diving (rarely in recreational diving). It allows to perform underwater work without the weight and bulk of a dive block and therefore offers more freedom of movement, the diver wearing the narghilé regulator double pipes with a harness (harness) . It is supplied with compressed air at medium pressure (about 10 bar) thanks to a long hose (average length of 30 meters), connected on the surface to a medium pressure compressor or a reserve of high pressure air expanded at a medium pressure by via a first floor.

In 1943, among the 3 prototypes of air-liquid regulator, one of them was in narghile version, it is the one that you see in the top photograph, the only one I know. It is "the ancestor" narghiles spirotechnique who will be marketed until 1976, since after that date the professional branch will be abandoned by the mark.

There are 3 models of double hoses sold between 1951 and 1976:

- The CG-45 in hookah version with small label SA SPIROTECHNIQUE.

As explained on page CG45 the hookah version was produced occasionally and on demand until 1955. The SPIROTECHNIQUE released a final series probably of 1000 units that year, which I called the narghile version of the regulator CG-45. The manufacturer's plate is a SA LA SPIROTECHNIQUE. The body is exactly the same as the caliper version, just the mechanism of the first stage is removed, replaced by a cap on the membrane side.

Unlike all the GC45s that use big numbers to punch their serial number, the serial numbers of this last series are stamped with small numbers as on MISTRAL plates from 1956. This confirms in my opinion a late production of CG45 narghile in parallel of the production of the first regulators MISTRAL with the address "COGNACQ JAY" which they used to stamp their serial number the same machine as that of the previous CG45 (big figures on the first MISTRAL). For this late series I have identified serial numbers included between the 5206 and the 6194, and all the GC45s observed in this interval have the previously reported characteristics.

- The CG-45 hookah version with US DIVERS body and MISTRAL label included 27 Rue Trébois LEVALLOIS (Seine) adress.

Released in 1956, after the move of the Spirotechnique in Levallois, Narghilé MISTRAL keeps the characteristics of the CG-45 with a body type "US DIVERSE" with its MP connection at 30 ° to the case. It is mounted with a MISTRAL manufacturer's plate and will be marketed until 1964. One precision, the HP body does not allow to reassemble the mechanism of the first stage to turn it into caliper regulator, as was the case on the CG45 narghile . One last peculiarity the serial numbers of all these hookahs ends with the letter G without one knowing the meaning.

-The MISTRAL hookah with label colored in gold  and navy blue colors as labels of regulators AQUILON or SPIRO 8.

The hookah MISTRAL written with a U in french word "NARGUILÉ" came out in 1965 and it will be produced a small series of 300 copies. It is one of the rarest regulators to find ...

the front pan will remain that of the GC 45 while the back pan is that of the MISTRAL. Abandon staples to close the case in favor of the ring which facilitates its maintenance and new low-pressure mechanism more efficient approaching the mechanism of the second stages to mouth with an oversized nozzle.

The manufacturer's plate is of good quality and does not electrolysis in the marine environment.

In 1968 the SPIROTECHNIQUE modifies the spelling of the narghilé and decides to write it with an H (For the little history the word "NARGHILÉ" can be written with a U or an H, the 2 orthographies are accepted in the french language). It will be marketed until 1976, when the Spirotechnique, which is going through an unprecedented financial crisis, will decide to stop its professional branch. Its nameplate is made of aluminum and electrolyses quickly in contact with the marine environment.

This is why it is hard to find with plates manufacturer in good condition. It has been produced in total less than 3000 NARGHILE MISTRAL is about 300 copies per year, so it is a relatively rare regulator.

In 1968 the Spirotechnique will release a narghile version of the Spiro 8 with 4 outputs to perform an oxygen decompression (bearing under the boat with trapeze) but also a late version? with a single output and a first stage type series 40 or 50.

In 1968 the spirotechnique will also release a version of the aquilon in narghile, it is equipped with a hose of 30 meters MP with a non-return valve. It is originally designed with its first stage to rig on a block (small quick intervention), but nothing prevents to connect it to a low pressure compressor.
